Black History Month

For our bulletin board, Melissa and I had "Black History Month." We decided that on our board, we wanted to include people who have contributed to the African American Community, and therefore should be recognized. Those people were, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Maya Angelou, Martin Luther King Jr., and President Barack Obama. We called our board, "The Journey to Freedom, Black History." We created a road and organized each person chronologically based on the year they were born. We choose to create an image that represents each person. For Rosa Parks, it was the bus she was refused to give up her seat on. Malcolm X had a podium, because he was outspoken in regard to the unfair treatment of African Americans. Maya Angelou, a book, because she is a famous author who wrote countless stories on the struggles of African Americans. MLK, the Washington Monument, for that is where he gave his famous, "I Have a Dream" speech. Finally, Barack Obama, had the American flag to represent him being our first African American president. Each person had a quote next to their pictures to provide the class with their name, and an understanding of their beliefs.
